All Students in the ballet program will be assessed during the first classes. Some students may have their class placement changed for their benefit. Ballet is very disciplined but it can also be fun. For ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE (RAD) Examination Work Because of the discipline, dedication and technique level required for entering the RAD examination process any students wanting to enter in exams will only be allowed to proceed at the teacher’s discretion. ~ Additional fees are charged for RAD exams by the RAD Association. ~ If wanting to enter into exams there will be more technique taught in class than free work. For students not wanting to enter exams there will be strong emphases on technique but more free work. ~ Exams are held in the fall or the spring and students will be entered into the appropriate exam depending on the preparedness at the teacher’s decision. ~ If doing exam work Grade 3 and up must come 2x per week Dress Code Requirements for exam class: Tights ~All grades - Regular ballet tights Body Suits ~ Pre Primary & Primary - Pink Tank with full circular character skirt ~ Grade 1 and up – Dark Blue cotton Tank ~ Majors (Pre El & up) – Dark Blue or Black cotton Tank or Spaghetti Strap Shoes ~ Pre Primary – Grade 4 full sole regular pink slipper ~ Grade 1 & up (9 yrs & up) also need character shoes and a character skirt ~ Grade 5 & up can wear split sole slippers ~ Pre Elementary & up also need Pointe Shoes Ballet RAD Pre Primary Age ~ 5 years Basic Ballet posture, poise and steps etc.. The syllabus emphasis is on fun with elements of creative movement added. Ballet RAD Primary Age ~ 6-8 years A similar syllabus to Primary, but with a stronger emphasis on further development of technique. Ballet RAD Grade 1 / 2 Age ~ 8 – 10 Experience ~ Dance basics, Beginner Ballet or Previous RAD classes This class works on developing posture and basic Ballet steps. Ballet RAD Grade 3 / 4 Age ~ 8 – 11 years Experience ~ Dance Basics II, Jazz 6 – 8 yrs or RAD Grade 1 / 2 This class works on developing stronger posture & Body Basics as well as refining step techniques. Ballet RAD Grade 4 / 5 Age ~ 11 – 13 years Experience ~ previous Ballet exams RAD grade 3 This class will be a strongly structured ballet class, focusing on technique and exam preparation. Ballet RAD Pre –Elementary Age ~ 12+ years Experience ~ previous ballet exams RAD 5 Students will be prepared for Pointe, however Pointe will NOT be taught to students younger than 12 unless the teacher feels that they are physically and technically strong enough. Ballet RAD Elementary Age ~ 13 and over Experience ~ previous ballet exams RAD 6 / 7, Pre-Elementary, or 5 years Ballet training Strong previous training is required, as at this level the classes are very physically demanding. All students should have previous Pointe work or be strong enough to go en Pointe Ballet I/II Age ~ 9 – 12 years Experience ~ novice or none For the beginner dancer with little or no previous Ballet or dance experience Ballet I Age ~ Adult / Teen Experience ~ novice or none For the beginner dancer with little or no previous Ballet or dance experience Ballet II Age ~ Adult / Teen Experience ~ minimum 1 - 2 years Ballet or Jazz training This Class will continue to develop technique, with the emphasis on strength, posture, alignment, and control. Ballet III Age ~ Adult / Teen Experience ~ minimum 3 years Ballet or 5 years Jazz training at level II/III or Intermediate level This Class will continue to develop technique, with the emphasis on strength, posture, alignment, and control. Ballet - Senior Age ~ Adult / Teen Experience ~ minimum 5 years Ballet This class will develop strong technique, with the emphasis on strength, posture, alignment, and control. Advanced combinations and exercises will be included in the class. Some Pointe work may also be incorporated depending on the students enrolled, or a separate Pointe class may be added. |
